Workshop: Strengthening academic collaboration between the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and Leiden University

The role of universities has expanded from purely knowledge-based generation, into proactive problem-solving agencies. To do so, interdisciplinary and internationalization frameworks have proof to be avenues for enhancing, strengthening, and upgrading the outcomes derived from universities . Consequently, international academic cooperation can offer opportunities for exchange, generation of new valuable knowledge and capacity building within partner institutions. Academic collaboration between Leiden University and UNAM is reflected in the 113 shared scientific publications in natural science between 2010 to 2019. It is expected that the number of shared outcomes may be twofold if humanities, social sciences and co-tutoring of students are considered.
It is assumed that a large part of the shared initiatives were triggered on a scholar to scholar based relationship. Presently, the internationalization offices from both universities have recognized each other as privileged partners. Therefore aiming at strengthening academic collaboration, by supporting current ongoing working groups, as well as encouraging new liaisons with alike scientific interests.
The workshop
This first workshop will create an informal space for sharing current achievements reached between the two institutions as well as offering the possibility for new engagement on the following themes:
• Social equity
• Basic sciences and sustainable development
• Industrial sustainable development
• Climate change
• Peace and justice
