Summary

Het proefschrift omschrijft de synthese van mycobacteriële fenolische glycolipiden, een subgroep aan glycolipiden die voorkomt bij mycobacteriën zoals M. tuberculosis en M. leprae, die respectievelijk tuberculose en lepra veroorzaken. De verbindingen zijn succesvol gesynthetiseerd en worden op dit moment gebruikt voor immunologisch onderzoek waarbij er hopelijk een mogelijkheid tot het ontwikkelen van een medicijn of vaccin gevonden kan worden.
