Know what you're breathing! From 30 June to 2 July, the Citizen Science Lab will go on an expedition to record the air quality in Leiden. Would you like to participate in this experiment, where photography, technology and science meet?
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 90% of the world's population breathes polluted air. But how polluted is polluted, and what does the air quality look like in your neighborhood? Researcher Francis Pope and artist Robin Price developed a technique that allows them to photograph exactly that. Will you help put Leiden in the picture?
Knowledge café on Air Quality
Friday 30 June, 18:30 - 23:00, The Field Leiden
Friday we will kick off with a knowledge café on air quality. Hear from the experts why air quality measurements are so important and learn about the technology we will use to take pictures of said air quality.
Expedition: Luchtkwaliteit in Beeld
Saturday 1 July, 22:00 - 23:00, Somewhere in Leiden
Saturday is the moment supreme. Since the photos must be taken at dusk, we will gather late in the evening. Around sunset, we will then have about seven minutes to simultaneously press the shutter button in as many places as possible.
Workshop: Air Quality Sensors
Sunday 2 July, 13:30 - 16:00, PLNT Leiden
Sunday afternoon there will be a workshop on using air quality sensors at your home. What is the point of installing such a sensor, and how does it work exactly?
Exhibition: Luchtkwaliteit in Beeld
Sunday 2 July, 16:00 - 19:00, PLNT Leiden
Following the workshop, we will conclude the weekend with a drink including a show and tell of last nights results. We also want to ask: what’s next?
Registration is free and can be done for one or more of the program components.Register
Wanted: Expedition leads
Would you like to take on some extra responsibility, or do you want to photograph a specific location? As expedition lead you will lead one of the picture-taking groups.
Benefits: You get to decide where the photos will be taken during the expedition, and you get to keep the kit and sensor after the weekend.
What we expect: You will be at all of the weekend's activities, and you will also make the kit available to people in your area after the weekend.
Interested? Sign up during registration!
