In this session, led by a UN Migration Housing, Land and Property (HLP) adviser, we will discuss HLP rights in the context of global displacement challenges. Drawing from the experiences and expertise of this advisor's work, we will explore the legal issues and political dilemmas faced in specific cases such as dealing with land claims in the aftermath of armed conflict in Sri Lanka; finding landowners after the devastating earthquake in Haiti; assisting relocation in the aftermath of the Indonesian tsunami; addressing the colonial land rights legacy in East Timor, and more.
