Financial stress: from bad to worse
Financial stress arises from a combination of inadequate financial resources and a lack of control over one's financial situation. Our research demonstrates that financial stress leads to a wide range of negative psychosocial outcomes and is linked to cognitive and behavioral effects that perpetuate financial hardship. These findings highlight the necessity of protecting financial stability for economically vulnerable households and emphasize the need for policymakers to design welfare systems tailored to the needs of the target population, typically those who are financially vulnerable.

Quality in the Market? Perspectives on Healthcare and Insurance in Brazil
When Brazilians pay for private health insurance, they expect a certain level of quality of healthcare that sets it apart from Brazil’s public healthcare. When medical professionals choose to work for private healthcare, and not public healthcare, they expect the quality of their services ánd their own life to improve. But how do patients, clients, and healthcare professionals define what quality is? What insecurities and dilemmas surface when looking for quality? And what qualities does the market, and not the state, have to offer?
What is Food for Thought?
During Food for Thought lunch meetings, researchers and interested colleagues can meet in an informal setting.
Two speakers from different institutes present their work in relation to a specific topic that is connected to the overarching FSW themes:
• Health and wellbeing in a healthy society;
• Societal transitions, inequality and diversity.
With this interdisciplinary approach you get to know varying standpoints and methods, gain new perspectives and broaden your network. You can apply to this event until the 17th of april.
