Come on the Gorlaeus biodiversity walk at 11.15 on 23 May and discover the hidden nature all around us.
The walk starts with a visit to Leiden Biologist Club’s unique rooftop garden on the first floor of the former Gorlaeus laboratory, which has since been converted into a sustainable bike parking facility to accommodate 3,000 bikes. Students from the club will explain how they plan to create this rooftop garden and why.
During the excursion, led by ecologist and associate professor Marco Roos (Institute of Biology Leiden), we will explore the biodiversity around the Gorlaeus building and look for unusual species. This will help with two initiatives:
- City Nature Expedition Leiden (25 April– 31 May): a bioblitz (a survey of living species) of ‘wild’ plants, animals and fungi.
- Hoger Onderwijs Bloeit (22 May – 22 June): a bioblitz at all participating universities and higher education campuses.
Bring along your smartphone and use the free ObsIdentify app to record your finds. Every observation counts!
