Replicas in Time: Nation Branding, the Exhibitionary Complex, and the Making of Chile at the World Expo Shanghai 2010
"This presentation examines Chile's participation in the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai to explore the convergence of exhibitionary technologies and contemporary nation branding logics. Using 2010 earthquake's replicas as an analytical metaphor, it argues that globalized national identity emerges from historical and political frictions rather than state coherence or a neoliberal consensus."

How can uncertainty in heritage be viewed not as a threat or risk, but as an opportunity for continuity, creativity, and socio-cultural intimacy?
Drawing on multi-sited sensory ethnographic fieldwork in Estonia, this research looks into how Estonian citizens engage with traditional music heritage. Through this, I develop the concept of 'skilled intimacy' — a form of national belonging rooted not in uniformity or certainty, but in the shared embodied practice of searching for and remaking heritage.
