Study trip Greek and Roman History 2026: Explore the Roman past of the Netherlands

Date
Friday 19 June 2026
Time
Address
Utrecht

As is by now a wonderful tradition, the team Greek and Roman History will be organizing a study trip at the end of the academic year. We cordially invite you to join our group of enthusiastic BA/MA/RMA students on June 19th 2026!

During this year’s trip we will be discovering what Roman life near the limes in the modern province of Utrecht looked like. The first highlight of our trip is a visit to the Roman fort and Museum Hoge Woerd in De Meern, where we will have the chance walk on the walls of a reconstructed Roman castellum and get a guided tour through the archaeological museum, including a visit to its famously well-preserved Roman shipwreck! We will then head to the inner city of Utrecht, where we will tour the canals of the city in a (replica of a) Roman ship that closely resembles what we have seen in the museum.

Every student is invited, so be sure to ask your fellow students to join us on what is set to be a day full of fun activities! There are only 28 spots available, so reserve yours by sending an email in good time to studiereisog@hum.leidenuniv.nl ultimately before 1 May! Participation in this year’s trip costs €25 per person, excluding travel expenses and meals, but including all admission fees, guided tours, and the boat trip.
