Share your ideas with the AI Product Owner
Do you work at Leiden University and have a specific need — for example due to a disability, neurodivergence, chronic illness, or any other reason?
The Digital Accessibility Working Group warmly invites you to talk with Julian van der Kraats, AI Product Owner at Leiden University, about the university's AI applications.
If this sounds interesting to you, please fill in the interest form so we know how many people to expect and can accommodate everyone as well as possible.
Programme
The meeting will take place in the Herta Mohr building, room 0.06, on Wednesday 14 October 2026, 13:30-15:00 hrs. It's also possible to join online. The programme includes:
- An explanation from Julian van der Kraats about Leiden University's AI applications.
- Space to ask questions and share what matters to you or what you need.
The central question is: How can we further develop Leiden University's AI applications so that they meet the diverse needs of our staff?
A separate meeting for students is being organised on 7 October 2026.
What Leiden AI applications are we talking about?
Leiden University is working on several AI tools for students and staff. Use the drop-down menu to find out more about each tool. All tools are still under development, which gives us room to incorporate user input.
LUChat (for staff) — a versatile AI assistant
LUChat works like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, but with some important differences behind the scenes. The tool runs within Leiden University's secure cloud environment, users log in with their ULCN account, and any data entered or generated is not used to train public AI models.
LUChat is currently being used by the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs.
LUCA (for staff) — build your own bot for students
The secure, protected platform LUCA (Leiden University Cognitive Agent) allows lecturers to experiment with configuring specific chatbots for students. It is currently being used within the Faculty of Humanities.
LUSbot (for students) — go-to for questions
A chatbot for student services. The bot can, for example, help answer questions about students' studies and graduation. LUSbot is still in development and not yet in use.
LULA (for students) — learn a new language
With LULA (Leiden University Language Assistant), students can learn a new language, such as Dutch, Italian or Chinese.
NotebookLM (for students) — study buddy
NotebookLM (now called Gemini Notebook) supports students in their learning. For example, they can upload reading material and have the AI bot quiz them on it or discuss readings with them. Unlike ChatGPT, for instance, this AI relies strictly on the uploaded material.
How can I prepare?
First of all, we'd like to ask you to fill in the interest form. Can't make it on 14 October? You can indicate that you're interested in a follow-up meeting and/or share your feedback via the form.
To prepare for the meeting, you might like to think about:
- Which of the AI tools above appeal to me, and why?
- What (not yet existing) AI application would make my day-to-day work easier?
- What difficulties have I encountered so far when using AI tools?
- What would I like Leiden University to take into account when further developing its AI platforms?
