Abstract
Kloekhorst & Pronk have just published a new edited volume on the reconstruction of the Proto-Indo-European stop system, bringing together numerous new proposals and perspectives on a long-standing debate. In this talk, I will argue against the increasingly popular implosive theory on typological grounds, discuss the question of voice-to-length and/or length-to-voice developments, and tentatively propose that the mediae be reinterpreted as pre-nasalised stops (see Kroonen 2019 for a similar proposal).
