Unacceptable behaviour

The University wants to create a stimulating and pleasant working environment. If you are the recipient of unacceptable behaviour, you can contact the confidential counsellor or submit a complaint to the Complaints Committee for Unacceptable Behaviour.

In a stimulating and pleasant working environment, matters such as team spirit, respect and consideration of others are a given and we are alert to unacceptable behaviour. This means that we are not only aware of our own behaviour but also keep a watchful eye on any form of unacceptable behaviour around us. Unacceptable behaviour should always be called out: by speaking directly to those involved or by calling in a third party.

Complaint about unacceptable behaviour

If you are the recipient of unacceptable behaviour or witness unacceptable behaviour, you can contact the confidential counsellor for unacceptable behaviour to discuss the problem in confidence and seek possible solutions. The confidential counsellor can:

  • Advise you on and support you with your complaint or problem and can help you find a solution and lodge a complaint.
  • Provide guidance if you want to try mediation or if want to lodge a complaint with Complaints Committee for Unacceptable Behaviour.
  • Refer you to experts on preventing and dealing with unacceptable behaviour.

Lodging a complaint

If you fail to reach a settlement during mediation or if the behaviour is of such a nature that you want to lodge an immediate complaint, the confidential counsellor can help you. You can submit this formal complaint to the Complaints Committee for Unacceptable Behaviour.

Confidentiality

Both the confidential counsellor and the complaints committee for unacceptable behaviour are bound to keep information about the complaint confidential.
