Introduction day

Perhaps you already know that the university has 7 faculties, about 4,000 staff members and more than 20,000 students. But do you also know where the motto ‘Praesidium Libertatis’ comes from? Or what the Sweat Room is and where it is located? Do you know what current issues the university is occupied with? The introduction day for new employees is your opportunity to really get to know the university.

Introduction day for new employees

On Thursday 16 September (NL) and Wednesday 10 November (EN), the introduction days for new employees will take place. You can sign up for one of the introduction days via Self Service.

The Executive Board considers it important not only that you become familiar with your new workplace, but that you also learn about the ambitions and traditions of the oldest university in the Netherlands. This is why an introduction day is organised each year for new employees. The following topics are on the programme for this event:

  • welcome and online knowledge quiz
  • 2 inspiration sessions
  • a speed date with your new colleagues
  • personal development
  • Q & A with an Executive Board member

Staff experiences

Many of your new colleagues have attended the introduction day in the past. Here are just a few of their experiences:

“Excellent. The narrative way in which things were presented took me on a journey through time and provided a good overview. The importance of the (centuries-old) traditions became even clearer to me.”

“Interesting, even for someone like me who has been living in Leiden for 15 years.”

“A complete, quick introduction to Leiden’s past and how Leiden got a university, keeping the legends alive, without neglecting the historical truth.”

“I liked the way three questions were used to meet some new colleagues who you might otherwise never have spoken with.”

“I really enjoyed it. The walk could certainly have gone on a bit longer. Leiden’s city centre, with all of the university buildings, is full of interesting facts.”

“The programme was wonderfully organised and facilitated.”
