Disk space and data recovery

As a standard, your workplace comes equipped with a limited amount of disk space. We offer a number of options for extending your disk space. In addition, ISSC can help you recover lost files.

Personal storage

As a standard you are issued 25 GB of disk space for data on your personal drive (the P-drive). If you need more space, you can apply for an extension. A staff member can be issued maximum of 50 GB of disk space.

Shared drives

The storage capacity of shared drives is automatically extended when the maximum capacity is reached. You do not need to apply for an extension.

E-mail storage

Every standard e-mail account has a maximum data storage of 1.95 GB. In addition you also have an e-mail archive folder of 10 GB. When your mailbox nears its maximum capacity, you will receive a warning by e-mail. There are a number of ways you can try to avoid exceeding your e-mail storage space:

  • Keep large attachments to your e-mails on your personal drive and delete them from your mailbox.

  • Archive e-mail to your e-mail archive folder
  •
Delete unnecessary e-mails on a regular basis.
  • Empty your Sent and Deleted Items folders on a regular basis.

If your mailbox and archive folder are full and you cannot clean your e-mail box any further, you can apply for an extension of your storage space. The storage space of your mailbox will be extended by 1 GB. The disk space of a functional mailbox can be extended by 5 GB.

Bulk storage

If you work with large data sets in the context of your research, projects, or multi-media applications, you can purchase bulk storage space via ISSC. Bulk storage is available per terabyte (TB). 1 TB of storage space costs €410 per year.

All applications are assessed by your ICT contact person.

Data recovery

If you accidentally deleted important files or e-mails, you should first try to recover them yourself by following one of the following manuals:

If you do not manage to recover your data, you can ask ISSC for help via an application for data recovery.
