Managing your password

Did you forget your password, want to change your password, or has your password expired?

You can reset your password via Account Services if you have forgotten it. However, this is only possible if you have used the correct settings for your account:

  • you have set up self-service password recovery via your mobile on your account
  • you have registered a non-university email address or mobile telephone number

Password recovery via Account Services

In Account Services, go to the Password Recovery tile to set up self-service password recovery. After completing all the steps, you will see a confirmation that the setup was successful. The five codes that are shown in the confirmation can be used when you do not have access to the device linked to the account. Store these codes in a safe place.

You can now reset your password using your mobile device without the intervention of a helpdesk. This method is available at any time of the day.

Receiving a temporary password via the helpdesk

If you are unable to use Account Services, you can ask for a new password via this form or you can contact an ISSC helpdesk. You will receive a temporary password by post, SMS or – with proof of identify – in person at the desk. This password has to be reset directly. It is always quicker to reset your password yourself via Account Services.

Updating your (temporary) password

If you have been given a temporary password, you must change this immediately. Change your password via Account Services. Note: after changing your password, it can take up to half an hour before you can use your account to log in.

Always immediately change your password if an attempt has been made to steal information, with phishing or malware infections, for example, or in the event of other security incidents.

Not received

Have you asked a helpdesk for a temporary new password by post or SMS, but you have not received this? A letter with your account information will only be sent to the address registered with the staff administration department. No other address can be used for this.

An SMS message with your account details will only be sent to the mobile number recorded in Account Services. No other mobile number can be used for this. Check whether you have provided the correct number.

Password requirements

Your password is case sensitive and must meet the following requirements:

  • contains at least 15 characters
  • contains at least 1 lowercase letter
  • contains at least 1 uppercase letter
  • contains at least 1 number
  • contains a character no more than 4 times sequentially
  • does not contain diacritics (such as à and é)
  • does not (partly) match your name or username
  • has not been used before

Keep your password secure and do not write it down!
