In February 2026, Leiden University opened a new 9,000 m² sports centre on Campusplein. Its location next to the sports fields makes it a visible sporting hub of the campus. The building has an open feel with plenty of glass and natural light. Inside, there is a large gym, two sports halls with stands and various studios for activities including dance, boxing and Body & Mind. There is also space for new sports such as calisthenics and aerial acrobatics. Thanks to its excellent acoustics, the centre is also suitable for exams. Sustainability plays an important role, with a thermal energy storage system and solar panels.
