Undesired behaviour

In a healthy and stimulating work environment, collegiality, respect and attention for others are self-evident, and any undesired behaviour is immediately addressed and redressed. This applies not only to your own attitude at work, but also to any form of undesired behaviour that you witness in your environment.

Undesired behaviour should always be addressed: by talking directly to the persons concerned or by calling in a third party.

What can the confidential counsellor for undesired behaviour do?

If you are or have been the victim of undesired behaviour or if you have witnessed undesired behaviour in your environment, you can contact the confidential counsellor for undesired behaviour. You may contact the confidential counsellor for any of the following:

  • Advice and support concerning your complaint or problem, both in resolving the problem and in filing a complaint
  • Guidance in case you decide to have the case mediated or lodge a complaint with the Complaints Committee
  • Referral to experts in preventing and combatting undesired behaviour

For whom? 

The confidential counsellor is available to anyone who works or studies at Leiden University. The confidential counsellor does not act as a mediator, and never interferes with the course of justice, nor does he or she act as counsellor in any appeal and objection procedure.

Complaints Committee for Undesired Behaviour

If mediation fails, or if the behaviour is such that it requires a complaint to be lodged immediately, the confidential counsellor can help you do this. This formal complaint should be submitted to the Complaints Committee for Undesired Behaviour

Confidentiality guaranteed

The confidential counsellor and the Appeals and Objections Committee, as well as their respective secretaries and secretariat, are bound by a duty of confidentiality. All information is treated in the strictest confidence.
