Introduction week: off to a good start
On September 4th the Faculty of Archaeology started the Academic year with an introduction week for the new BA and (R)MA students.
The aim was to provide them with a good start and introduce them to the programme and the faculty. Hopefully leading to greater study success.
Building a community was the aim for this diverse group of student from many cultural backgrounds.
Why archaeology matters
Special attention was paid to specific programme information, meeting the BA mentor and MA supervisor and getting around in the faculty. A lecture by Professor David Fontijn on why archaeology matters: “How the deep past shapes the present”, gave students a good impression of archaeology in Leiden.
The MA programme also focused on the research conducted by our faculty as an inspiration to a research interest, thesis subject or possibly a career.
The day was concluded with an introduction to the Dutch landscape and some archaeological highlights trough an excursion with our teaching staff.
The first impressions are that the introduction week reached its goal. We hope students feel more at home, made friends and know their way around our faculty. Resulting in a safe learning environment.
