On Friday November 15, the rectors of 6 LERU universities have signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) to start exchanging students virtually. By signing this MOU they express their intention to collaborate in the Virtual Exchange project for LERU partners.

Since January 2018 students from Leiden University can participate in Virtual Exchange, which means they can follow online courses for credits at partner universities. Leiden is now participating in two consortia and has been working with interested LERU partners on the start up of this third consortium.

On average 50 Leiden students per semester go on Virtual Exchange at one of our partner universities. By founding this LERU collaboration, we aim to expand our offer of engaging, high quality courses to interested students, and to enrich our own international classrooms with students from LERU partners. Virtual Exchange gives students at these universities yet another opportunity for a flexible, personalised education.

So far the following LERU Universities are ready to join the Virtual Exchange project:

  • University of Amsterdam
  • LMU Munich
  • Sorbonne University
  • Utrecht University
  • University of Geneva
  • Leiden University

These six partners are the frontrunners in an alliance that has the ambition to expand with more LERU partners in the near future to keep expanding our offer to students and intensify the LERU collaboration not only in the field of research but also education.
