Pitch your research at FameLab

Are you a young scientist studying or working in science and technology, medicine or social sciences? And can you give a rousing three-minute speech about your research? Register for the Leiden heat of FameLab, the science communication competition.

FameLab is the science communication competition. Young scientists who are aged between 21 and 40 and studying or working in science and technology, medicine, biomedicine or the social sciences (BSc, Msc, PhD candidates, postdocs) battle it out to see who can give the clearest and most appealing explanation of their research in the space of only three minutes. PowerPoint is banned; the participants may only use two props to back up their story. Please note: the competition is in English.

Leiden heat

The Leiden heat of FameLab 2020 will be held in the Academy Building (small auditorium) on 12 March at 16:00 hours. An expert jury will judge the entrants on three aspects: the content and clarity of their pitch and their charisma. Registration is open until 17 February. If there are more than 15 entrants, a prior selection will be made in consultation with the jury. The jury will at least consist of astronomers Pedro Russo and Yamila Miguel.

National final

The two winners of the Leiden heat will represent Leiden University in the national final. This will be held on 13 May at Tivoli in Utrecht. The finalists will be given a masterclass in presentation skills on 23 and 23 April. The Dutch winner will then take part in the international final in Cheltenham, United Kingdom.
