Join in with Healthy University Week

It’s Healthy University Week at Leiden University from 26 to 30 October. A week full of activities to help our staff stay physically and mentally fit. Do the online office work out every day, follow a lunchtime lecture on healthy snacks or take a workshop on how to reduce stress.

How do you stay mentally and physically fit in these challenging times? That’s the theme of Healthy University Week 2020, which is being held from 26 to 30 October. Due to the corona measures, this year’s Healthy University Week will be online, but the programme is no less inspiring. There are interactive workshops on physical and mental health, live training sessions with the University Sports Centre (USC) and inspiring lunchtime lectures by speakers including Pierre Wind, Nienke Wijnants, Kiki Vreeling and Andrea Evers. And it’s all free of charge to Leiden University and LUMC staff.

Office workout 

Follow the USC’s daily workout at 10.00. A short break to relieve tension in your neck, back and shoulders, boost your circulation and strengthen your muscles.  You’ll be energised and raring to go.

Workshop: You vs. your screen: How to win the battle in 2020

Reducing screen time? In pandemic times? How, you might ask yourself? We are all working from home right now, and spending many hours in front of our screen may seem unavoidable. In this webinar we will give you ideas on how to keep track of your screen time and explore alternatives for structuring offline breaks. We are here to help you win the battle!

Workshop: Facts and fiction about nutrition  

Healthy eating is hot. It’s all over the media. What should you believe? Are carbs and gluten bad? Are ‘superfoods’ really that good? With all the contradictory messages in the media, we can no longer see the woord for the trees, and our food has become associated with a whole range of rules and emotions that only serve to distract us from what it is really about. This workshop will help you separate the facts from the fiction.

Webinar: Taking a stand 

Has corona had you tied to your chair? Are you spending endless hours at your desk? Are you moving around enough at work? At the ‘Taking a Stand’ webinar we will take a literal stand against too much sitting! We will look at how too much sitting, also known as sedentary behaviour, during work can affect your daily life. We’ll delving into why it’s so importance to move during the day. Together we’ll look at the small steps that you can take to make big strides in your overall health.

A full body workout. There are two parts to this training, cardio, where you will train your heart and lungs, and strength, where you will strengthen your abdominals, glutes and legs.
