Stéphanie Noach receives a Fulbright grant

Stéphanie Noach, PhD within LUCAS, received a Fulbright grant to conduct research for her PhD project 'Dark Matters. Recasting Darkness with Contemporary Latin American Art' at the Afro-Latin American Research Institute at Harvard University.

During her stay at Harvard, Stéphanie Noach will examine the dark prints presenting the creation myth of the Afro-Cuban brotherhood by Belkis Ayón as well as the black photographs by René Peña.

Executive director of Fulbright, Christward J. Gradenwitz, spoke a few words at the Fulbright Grant Ceremony:
"Stéphanie will be leaving for Harvard University at the end of July, for her research on Cuban artists Bekis Ayon and René Peña. She already has had quite an international career: she spent time in Columbia as a guest lecturer and as invited curator, and did the same in Cuba. Stéphanie will be doing research at the Afro-Latin American Research Institute to attempt to dismantle one of the most rigid and comprehensive binaries, of light and dark. Stéphanie is an excellent researcher, an outstanding teacher and her research is groundbreaking. It will shed new light on the knowledge of contemporary art in Latin America, from an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective."
