Sign up now: Working visits to draw inspiration for the alternative Humanities Campus

Yes, the new Humanities Campus is going to be smaller in size. But no, that doesn’t mean there’ll be any shortage of space. The available area and a creative design will give us all the room we need. So what will such a design look like? Take a look for yourself in the Arsenaal, the Pieter de la Court Building and in January to the Kamerlingh Onnes Building.

Why do we need working visits to gain inspiration?

Now that we know that the Humanities Campus will be smaller in size and the new workplace norms are going to be applied, the question of what the new working environment will look like becomes even more important. Within the available space, an institute or department can determine for itself how the work areas are to be arranged, what kind of meeting rooms, pantries and other facilities there will be. And there’s plenty of opportunity for choice. It’s easier to talk and think about what will or won’t work if you have an image of what a new work environment can look like. To help with that, next month we will be making working visits to the Arsenaal and the Pieter de la Court Building. Not because things there are perfect, or because this is the way things should be organised, but to see what kinds of things are possible, what we absolutely don’t want and what we do want. With this in mind, everyone who is interested in the development of the Humanities Campus is invited to take part in the working visits. You can register via the form.

The working visits and tours will take place on:

  • Monday 6 December 16.30 – 18.00 hrs., Pieter de la Courtgebouw/FSW
  • Thursday 9 December 16.00 – 17.30 hrs., Arsenaal
  • Tuesday 14 December 16.00 – 17.30 hrs., Pieter de la Courtgebouw/FSW
  • Wednesday 15 December 16.00 – 17.30 hrs., Arsenaal
  • Monday 17 January 15.30 - 17.00 hrs., Kamerlingh Onnes building
  • Tuesday 25 January 15.30 - 17.00 hrs., Kamerlingh Onnes building

These visits and tours will be organised in line with the relevant corona measures.

The Arsenaal

In April 2020, the Arsenaal was re-opened as one of the sub-projects of the Humanities Campus. The design of the Arsenaal reflects the vision for the Humanities Campus Concept (HCC). This means that there is a lot of room for meetings, discussion areas outside the work rooms, a number of shared offices, flex areas, a research master’s area, modern teaching facilities and pleasant self-study places for students.

Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FSW) in the Pieter de la Court Building

In October 2021 the Institute for Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CAOS) and the FSW Faculty Board moved into the Pieter de la Court Building, following the refurbishment in line with the policy of Activity-oriented Housing. In the new building you will find a fresh, light and activity-oriented work environment with meeting rooms, quiet areas for concentrated work and coffee corners with (by no means unimportant) really good coffee!
