Paul Nieuwbeerta affiliated professor at Statistics Netherlands
From April 2022, Professor Paul Nieuwbeerta will be working one day a week as affiliated professor for Statistics Netherlands (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS)). He is Professor of Criminology at the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology, Leiden University.
In this position with the CBS, Nieuwbeerta will be working at the Legal Protection and Security team (Rechtsbescherming en Veiligheid (SRV)), and will also be consulting with other CBS researchers and methodologists.
Paul Nieuwbeerta is the first university professor to start as an affiliated professor at the CBS. The position of affiliated professor was established by the CBS to mirror the role of endowed professor at universities. The intention is to advance collaboration between the CBS and universities. Social networks
In the role of affiliated professor, Paul Nieuwbeerta will contribute to renewing and improving research and statistics on crime and punishment in the Netherlands. He will focus in particular on the criminal justice chain and the influence that social networks have on crime.
The collaboration between the CBS and Leiden University falls under the research programme Criminal Justice: Legitimacy, Accountability and Effectivity of Leiden Law School and the research profile area Interaction between legal systems of Leiden University.
