Marcellus Ubbink new Scientific Director of the LIC institute

As of 1 July, Marcellus Ubbink is the new Scientific Director of the Leiden Institute for Chemistry. He will succeed Hermen Overkleeft, who led the institute since 2017. Ubbink has been appointed for a period of four years.

Ubbink is Professor of Protein Chemistry and Director of Education for the bachelor Life Science & Technology. He studied Biology and obtained his PhD in Chemistry both in Leiden.

Excellent scientist with a lot of administrative experience

The faculty board is very happy with the new director. Dean Jasper Knoester: 'With Marcellus we have not only found an excellent scientist for this important role, but also someone with considerable administrative experience. Someone who has an eye for the complex interplay of ambitions and interests that exist within the university.’

Lies Bouwman acting Director of Education for the bachelor Life Science & Technology

As of 1 July Lies Bouwman will be acting Director of Education, temporarily taking over Ubbink’s tasks. Bouwman is Director of Education for the masters the Chemistry and LST. LIC has started recruiting a permanent successor for Ubbink.
