Greek Ambassador visits Faculty of Archaeology

On January 17th 2023, Caterina Ghini, Ambassador of Greece to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, visited the Faculty of Archaeology. Her Excellency reached out to Leiden University with the purpose to collaborate and engage with us.

From climate change to cultural heritage

The Ambassador had a conversation with Annetje Ottow, President of the Executive Board of Leiden University, as well as with Jan Kolen, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology, and Joanita Vroom, who has a number of running research projects in Greece. Themes that came up in this talk varied from climate change, the energy crisis, cultural heritage to tourism, political relations, and exchange students.

After the conversation Caterina Ghini received a tour through the Van Steenis building after which there were presentations by Ritchie Kolvers, research assistant of Joanita Vroom's Medieval Chalcis and its Euboean Hinterland project, as well as by Aris Politopoulos on a new project in Thessaly. Afterwards the event was concluded with drinks.
