Book presentation 'Phanta Rhei: recht en duurzaamheid'

On 15 June 2023, the book presentation for the ‘Panta Rhei: recht en duurzaamheid’ (Panta Rhei: law and sustainability) was held at the Oude Sterrenwacht in Leiden. The book provides an overview of research in the field of sustainability conducted at Leiden Law School and was compiled by Yvonne Erkens, Cees de Groot, and Chris van Oostrum.

The contributions were written by researchers from a range of disciplines within the law who are working on issues surrounding the environment and climate, decent labour, human rights, sustainable business and investment, and the role that the law can and should play in these areas. Sustainable development can only be achieved by balancing ecological, economic, and social interests. This volume contributes to this from a scholarly perspective and, for that reason, is very suitable for readers looking for an overview of the various legal issues surrounding sustainability.

The book presentation started with a welcome speech by Yvonne Erkens after which three speakers were introduced. Manuella Bridgette Appiah spoke about how sustainable supply chain regulation works in practice. Lara Hartman-Ohnesorge discussed the opportunities and challenges of new sustainable information requirements in financial markets. Jonathan Huijts shared his insights on plastic regulation from a comparative law perspective. After the presentations, there was room for questions and discussion. The interaction between speakers and audience resulted in an engaging exchange of ideas.

Afterwards, attendees received a copy of ‘Panta Rhei: recht en duurzaamheid’ and there was an opportunity for informal discussions with the speakers and other participants over drinks afterwards.
