Satellite conference IFLA 2023 - Empire, Indigeneity, and colonial heritage collections: confronting difficult pasts, enabling just futures
The IFLA-Section Rare Books and Special Collections committee and the Indigenous Matters Section, in collaboration with Leiden University Libraries (UBL) organize a satellite conference in Leiden – Friday August 18th and Saturday August 19th – prior to the IFLA World Library and Information Congress.
The satellite conference is devoted to a very relevant topic in the world of libraries and heritage: ‘Empire, Indigeneity, and colonial heritage collections: confronting difficult pasts, enabling just futures.’ The two-day programme includes keynote speakers, twelve papers and a panel discussion, with much room for questions and debate.
Programme
The conference takes place on Friday August 18th and Saturday August 19th. The programme includes library tours, a pop-up exhibition, and visits to the Bibliotheca Thysiana, lunches, drinks and a conference diner on Saturday August 19th. Sunday August 20th is a special excursion day for participants of the conference, with the possibility to visit the Bibliotheca Thysiana, to join a bookhistorical city-walk and a guided tour at the exhibition Maps: Navigating and Manipulating at Museum Volkenkunde in Leiden. Admission is free, for both physical and digital attendance.
