Suzan Stoter new Dean of Leiden Law School

Prof. Suzan Stoter will be the Dean of Leiden Law School at Leiden University as of 1 January 2024. The Leiden University Executive Board has appointed her for a period of four years. Stoter succeeds Joanne van der Leun, who, together with the other members of the Faculty Board, brought great verve to the role from September 2016 to July 2023. The Executive Board is extremely grateful to Joanne for all her hard work.

Suzan Stoter has been Interim Dean and Professor of Sociology of Law at Leiden Law School since 1 July 2023. She was Dean of Erasmus School of Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam from 2013 to 2021 and is also Professor of Sociology of Law at Erasmus University.

Rector Magnificus Hester Bijl is pleased with the appointment: ‘As Interim Dean, Suzan has calmed the mood at the faculty in recent months and enjoys a lot of support there. The appointment will allow our law school to benefit for a longer period from her extensive managerial experience and ability to bring people together, something the faculty currently needs. I am confident that Suzan will make a strong contribution to the continued development of our law school.’

Suzan Stoter comments: ‘I am looking forward to this new challenge. We − the Faculty Board, the academic directors and the students and staff – are going to build together on the future of this excellent faculty. I will devote my full attention to the revamped bachelor’s programme, the research and ensuring a professional and, above all, financially sustainable faculty.’
