Thomas Bäck and Hao Wang new Editors in chief of the Evolutionary Computation Journal

LIACS scholars Thomas Bäck and Hao Wang will be the new Editors-in-Chief of the Evolutionary Computation Journal from November 1. Published by MIT Press since its foundation in 1993, the journal stands as a keystone in the field, providing a global platform for researchers exploring the workings of computational systems inspired by nature.

The Journal is renowned for its focus on evolutionary computation methods, encompassing genetic algorithms, evolutionary strategies, evolutionary programming, and genetic programming. These algorithms excel in real-world applications across various domains and are crucial in AI, including hyperparameter optimization, neural architecture search, and automated machine learning.

Honour

Thomas Bäck, one of the newly appointed Editors-in-Chief, expressed his deep connection to the journal, stating, "I have had an article published in the very first issue of the Evolutionary Computation Journal, in spring 1993. Now It is an honour to be the Editor in Chief, together with Hao, and to progress into the 31st year of the journal and beyond. We both look forward very much to working with the Advisory Board, the Associate Editors, and the Editorial Board of the journal, and of course with the publisher, MIT Press." His co-Editor-in-Chief, Hao Wang, echoed this sentiment. "For me, it is a big honour to do this jointly with Thomas, for such a prestigious journal,” Wang remarked.

With Thomas Bäck and Hao Wang in charge, the Evolutionary Computation Journal will continue its legacy of excellence, fostering a dynamic space for groundbreaking research and collaboration in the ever-evolving field of computational systems inspired by nature.
