Simone van der Hof and Ton Liefaard collaborate on UNICEF Safer Internet Day symposium
On Safer Internet Day (Tuesday 6 February), UNICEF Netherlands organised a symposium on the theme of 'Children's rights in the digital world' in collaboration with Leiden University and Kennisnet. Simone van der Hof and Ton Liefaard contributed to the symposium.
At the symposium, various experts discussed urgent issues at the intersection of children's rights and digitisation that were previously highlighted in the eight-part essay series. These issues include mental health and social media, digital inclusion, data in the classroom, harmful content, online sexual abuse and digital resilience. How can parents, professionals and policymakers use these insights?
The UNICEF academic essay series on 'Children's rights in the digital world' provided the theme for the symposium.
The sympsium included an interactive programme with time for questions and knowledge sharing. The speakers were: Alexandra van Huffelen (State Secretary for Kingdom Relations and Digitalisation), Suzanne Laszlo - Serrarens (Director of UNICEF Netherlands), Ton Liefaard (Professor of Children's Rights), Simone van der Hof (Professor of Law and Digital Technology), Johan Kruip (expert on children's rights at UNICEF Netherlands), Larissa Zegveld (Director of Kennisnet), Remco Pijpers (Kennisnet), Arda Gerkens (Chair of the Board at ATKM), Tiffany van Stormbroek (Director of NICAM, Kijkwijzer), Patti Valkenburg (Distinguished Professor of Media, Youth and Society), Esther Rozendaal (Professor of Digital Resilience), Alexander van Deursen (Professor of Digital Inequality) and Erwin Bomas (Lecturer in Research and Design).
