Kim Duistermaat new Campus The Hague Director as of 1 April: ‘I like to be in the driver’s seat’
Kim Duistermaat will become the Campus The Hague Director on 1 April. In this new role, she will monitor Campus The Hague projects and drive them forward. ‘I think it will be great to contribute to the successful realisation of the concept of “one university in two cities”.’
Duistermaat is no stranger to Leiden University in The Hague. She has spent the past seven years working as an institute manager at Leiden University College The Hague (LUC). We asked her three questions about her new job and Campus The Hague.
1. What makes the role of director so appealing?
‘A combination of elements: the connecting role within the university, being involved in activities at Campus The Hague, the connections between the campus and The Hague and other partners, and the Campus’s unique position within the university. I think it will be great to contribute to the successful further realisation of the concept of “one university in two cities”.’
2. What are you going to do first?
‘I want to get to know all the players at Campus The Hague better and to hear how their ambitions fit the campus along with the challenges they face and the results we can celebrate.’
3. What will you bring with you from your previous job?
‘Just like the role of institute manager at LUC and my previous job as director of the NVIC in Cairo, the director is in the driver’s seat. And that’s a place I like to be. As an “end user” at an institute, you have to deal with policies developed centrally. These experiences will stand me in good stead. In the past few years, I have learned what our students and staff at LUC consider important for the university and our future. I also know lots of people on the campus, at the university and in the city of The Hague. But this new job is very different from my previous ones at the university. I am really looking forward to getting to know the university in a very different way. And of course to working with a fantastic team.’
Erwin Muller, Chair of Campus The Hague: ‘We are really pleased to welcome Kim Duistermaat to Campus The Hague. She will have an important role in realising the projects from the implementation agenda. That is sorely needed because a lot has to happen soon.
As Campus The Hague Director, Duistermaat will support the Campus The Hague Board and be a point of contact for project leaders and other stakeholders. The Board comprises Erwin Muller (Chair), Jan Crijns (teaching portfolio), Rolf Oosterloo (operations portfolio) and Jeroen Touwen (teaching portfolio).
The director is a member of the Campus The Hague Team alongside John Kroes (Director General Management Affairs), Marianne Walgreen (Senior Policy Adviser at Strategy and Academic Affairs) and Judith van Doorn (Senior Communications Adviser for Campus The Hague/Strategic Communications and Marketing).
