Santino Regilme Wins International Studies Association's Best Book in Human Rights - Honorable Mention, 2023-2024
Salvador Santino Regilme received an honorable mention from the Human Rights Section at the International Studies Association (ISA) for his book, Aid Imperium: United States Foreign Policy and Human Rights in Post-Cold War Southeast Asia (University of Michigan Press). The ISA Human Rights Section’s Best Book Award recognizes an outstanding monograph in the field of human rights published within the past two years. Nominated books are evaluated for excellence and impact in terms of germaneness, substance, originality, and timeliness.
The official award citation indicates that Aid Imperium is a “very good book with strong and novel empirical insights regarding the impact of US aid on human rights with troubling findings… It also makes innovative theoretical and methodological contributions to the field”.
The International Studies Association is one of the oldest interdisciplinary associations dedicated to understanding international, transnational and global affairs. Founded in 1959, its more than 7,000 members span the globe – comprising academics, practitioners, policy experts, private sector workers and independent researchers, among others. The Association has long served as a central hub for the exchange of ideas and for networking and programmatic initiatives among those involved in the study, teaching and practice of International Studies.
Regilme’s Aid Imperium is the recipient of the 2023 Cecil B. Currey Book Award from the Association of Global South Studies.
