Final Kiem symposium on interdisciplinarity and decompartmentalisation

How do you set up successful interdisciplinary collaborations? That is the central question of a triptych of Leiden symposia in 2024. The final part, on 6 June, looks at cooperation and decompartmentalisation between public institutions. In addition, there will be information on the new round of Kiem grants. The language of the symposium will be Dutch.

An ever-growing group of Leiden researchers is involved in interdisciplinary research or educational projects, or is interested in starting interdisciplinary work. Not so strange, then, that a Kiem project pays attention to the best ways to shape interdisciplinary cooperation via three symposia. The first two of these symposia took place in February and MarchHere, various pieces of advice were shared, such as ‘don’t collaborate with colleagues that are just like you, instead embrace diversity’ and ‘take your dime discovering each other’s views on science and practicing science.’

Ontkokering

The third and final symposium will cover examples of successful interdisciplinarity and breaking down organizational boundaries. In separate sessions, various partners of Leiden University will tell us about successful collaborations with other organizations. After that, there will be a panel discussion between Jan Willem Erisman (interdisciplinary research programme Liveable Planet), Eefje Cuppen en Jet Bussemaker (interdisciplinary research programme Population Health Living Lab The Hague). These three professors are highly experienced in forging ties between research and public actors.

New Kiem grants

All the tips on interdisciplinary collaboration can be put into practice right away, because soon a new round of Kiem grants will start. This allows Leiden researchers to apply for a €10,000 grant for an interdisciplinary initiative. During the meeting, Sicco de Knecht, head of Research Policy, will explain this new round. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about applying for this grant.

The symposium is an ideal opportunity to gain ideas, insights, contacts or grant opportunities. In short: do not miss this meeting and register now.
