Rik Rozendaal wins EAERE dissertation award
Rik Rozendaal has won one of the three annual dissertation awards of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE). The economist received the award for his dissertation on climate policy.

Rozendaal, who is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Economics, defended his thesis ‘On the economic effects of climate policies’ at Tilburg University last November. His research focuses on the effects of stricter climate policies on innovation, market power and income distribution.
For his PhD research, Rozendaal was awarded the 2025 EAERE Award for Best Doctoral Dissertation in Environmental and Resource Economics. This award was established in 2019 to encourage and recognise outstanding and innovative academic achievement in the field of Environmental and Resource Economics. The assistant professor is only the second Dutch recipient of the award. He was preceded by Ton van den Bremer, who won it in 2019.
The jury notes:
‘He demonstrates creativity (creating a great measure of environmental stringency in his JAERE publication), curiosity (eager to solve first-order questions related to practical regulation, but also to complex modeling), and courage (moving from empirics to complex dynamic modeling).’
The award will be presented at the annual EAERE conference in Bergen (Norway) in June. The other winners are Romain Fillon (Université Paris-Saclay) and Filippo Pavanello (ifo Institute and LMU Munich).
