Call for interdisciplinary Kiem grant opens on 30 March

The call for the ’26-’27 Kiem grant opens on Monday 30 March. Leiden University staff can apply for 10,000 euros for an interdisciplinary research or teaching initiative. This is the last Kiem round.

Academic and support staff from the university will be able to apply for a Kiem Grant from Monday 30 March. Through its Kiem programme (2023–2026), Leiden University is providing 25 annual seed grants to support the development of new interdisciplinary (interfaculty) research and teaching collaborations and encounters.

Kiem applications (€10.000 per project) must involve staff from at least two of the university’s faculties. Support professionals and units may also apply for a Kiem grant in collaboration with at least two faculties. 

Timeline

The key dates for this Kiem call are as follows: 

Monday 30 March – Kiem call opens 
Online application form opens on the Kiem homepage.

Thursday 16 April, 12:00-13:00 hrs. – Online Q&A
Ask your questions to the Kiem team during the online Q&A. 

Monday 11 May, 17:00 hrs. – Deadline for Kiem applications
Online form closes at 17:00 hrs, and applications may no longer be submitted. 

Tuesday 12 - Wednesday 27 May – Admissibility review 
Kiem team reviews whether applications meet the criteria. If applications do not (quite) meet the criteria, the applicants will be informed and have a single chance to submit an amended application before the start of June. 

Thursday 11 June, 16:00 hrs. – Lottery 
If more than 25 admissible applications have been submitted, fate will decide which projects receive a Kiem grant. A grand draw will be held at The Field, Leiden. All applicants are welcome to attend. They will not only be able to watch the lottery live but will also have the chance to network with others. 

Monday 15 June at the latest – Written results 
The leaders of all projects, whether selected or not, will receive written notification of the results.
