Teachers make Bachelor Experience Day a success

On April 13, 84 students from 4th and 5th year pre-university education participated in the Bachelor Trial Study Day. They attended two trial lectures and asked questions to a student panel to get an idea of the study programme and career opportunities.

This day would not have been possible without the dedication, energy, and commitment of our teachers. Thanks to their enthusiasm, expertise, and engaging teaching style, the day was rated very positively by prospective students.

One of the participants: ‘I thought it was a well-organised day and it helped me a lot with my choice of study.’

Curious students
The lectures were diverse and engaging. Laura Nawijn took the students through the theme of depression, Anouschka van Dijk showed how emotions work in the brain, Shosha Peersmann gave an interactive lecture on sleep, and Anouk van der Weiden gave an introduction to group dynamics. For the lecturers themselves, it was also a valuable experience: an opportunity to introduce curious students to their field of study. Shosha Peersmann: ‘I enjoyed getting the participants excited about health psychology. They participated actively and were paying close attention.’

Personal experiences
Anouscha van Dijk noticed that giving a lecture during the trial study day is different from regular education: ‘For many students, it was the first time they had attended a lecture. That makes it exciting, but at the same time, they were enthusiastic and took the lecture very seriously. The questions asked were different from those asked by regular students; participants frequently linked the material to their own experiences, which led to wonderful and valuable interactions.’

We Will Rock You
For Anouk van der Weiden, it was the second time she had done this: ‘It is great fun to be able to give students a taste of our wonderful educational offerings. I really push students out of their comfort zone by briefly stomping, clapping, and singing ‘We Will Rock You’ together. That is incredibly awkward, for me too, but it immediately leads to a stronger sense of group cohesion (the subject of my trial lecture) and subsequently makes it less daunting to ask questions and engage in discussions, even within half an hour.’
