From summer school to history days, FGW’s summer is packed with events again this year.

Summer School in Languages and Linguistics

6 – 17 July
The Leidse Summer School in Languages and Linguistics 2026 offers a varied program of introductory as well as more advanced courses in Anatolian, Classics, Descriptive Linguistics, Language Documentation, Eastern Christianity, Germanic, General Linguistics, Historical Linguistics, Indo-European, Indology, Iranian, Papyrology, Russian Literature, Semitic, and Sino-Tibetan.

The Summer School offers various lectures that are open to anyone who is interested.

 

7 juli: The spread of Sino-Tibetan languages, agriculture and weaving in East Asia

9 juli: Starting at the root: P'urhepecha and the early history of American lexicography

14 juli: Other Voices: The Linguistic Remains of Pre-Roman Italy

16 juli: Horse domestication and Indo-Europeans: a Linguist’s View

55th Colloquium on African Languages and Linguistics

24 – 26 August

The 55e Colloquium on Afrikan Languages and Linguistics (CALL 2026) will be held in Leiden from Monday 24 August up to and including 26 August 2026. CALL will be live with an on-line option.

Historians’ Days 2026 'Future of history'

27 – 29 August

The Historian's Days (in Dutch: Historicidagen) are jointly organized by the Royal Netherlands Historical Society (KNHG) and Leiden University from 27-29 August 2026, and are meant for everyone interested in history, professionally or otherwise.

Africa-Europe Relations in a World in Rupture: Foundations and Critical Approaches

31 August – 4 September

During the NEAR-ER Summer School, students will explore the foundations of and critically examine the relations between Africa and Europe, including regional cooperation and integration. The programme encompasses various disciplinary perspectives such as history, law, politics, economics, international relations, area studies, cultural studies, and linguistics. The School will include lectures, workshops, group work, and study visits. The final day will feature a tailored academic conference in which students present their own research and receive expert feedback.
