Recap: A visit to Arhus

Last week, the Leiden Leadership Centre took part in the yearly Global Leadership Centres Rountable (GLCR) in Arhus, Denmark. Researchers from different countries came together to present new research, share ideas and explore future collaborations.

Global Leadership Centres Roundtable 2026

Together with in the LEAD (University of Groningen), ACLOS+ (Århus University) and The Centre for Leadership and Behavior in Organizations (CLBO Goethe University Frankfurt), we were a guest of the King Frederik Centre for Public Leadership at the University of Århus. These centres are all focused on leadership in different contexts.

The week was inspiring and created new connections for future collaborations. Highlights were the addition of ACLOS+ to the GLCR and the start of the new Goethe Leadership Centre (Frankfurt).

Presentation given by Ben Kuipers

Contributions of the Leiden Leadership Centre

During the meeting, researchers of the LLC presented the various projects. On Thursday, Ben Kuipers, Maria Tiggelaar and Amandine Lerusse presentted their research of the roles of municipalities in strengthening climate behaviour, from the perspective of "leading by example".

On Friday, Bernard Bernards, Eduard Schmidt and our Danish colleagues Mads Pieter van Luttervelt and Mathias Rask Østergaard-Nielsen (King Frederik Centre) presented their findings from research into credibility factors in the leadership of healthcare professionals. In addition, Mads-Pieter and Tanachia Ashikali shared their joint research, which builds upon the inclusion model developed by Shore et al. (2011). This model measures inclusive leadership through two elements: a sense of belonging and the appreciation of each individual's unique qualities (value in uniqueness).

GLCR in a nutshell

We return feeling energized and motivated, already looking forward to our next meeting with this warm, engaged group of academics. Everyone was in unanimous agreement: meeting in person enriches the creative and scholarly process.
