What knowledge and skills are employers looking for in young professionals? The annual ranking by career platform Magnet.me provides insight into the higher education programmes that are most popular with employers. The Master's programme Management Public Sector ranks fourth.
Strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation are strongly represented among the programmes that perform well in the Magnet.me ranking, according to AD. Leiden University features twice in the list: the Master's in Public Sector Management is ranked fourth, while the Master's in Corporate Law is placed fifteenth.
According to Laurens van Nues, Co-founder and CEO of Magnet.me, the popularity of these programmes is linked to organisations' increasing focus on future leadership. Employers are seeking graduates who can develop into professionals with broad responsibilities and who are capable of connecting different developments across an organisation.
The rise of AI is also influencing changing demands for knowledge and skills. Degree programmes in data science and analytics are less prominent than they were a few years ago. According to Magnet.me, this may be related to the fact that certain analytical tasks are increasingly being carried out by AI. At the same time, specialist expertise remains essential for critically evaluating AI applications and their outputs.
The ranking therefore provides insight into the academic backgrounds that currently attract employers' interest. However, it should not be viewed as a blueprint for choosing a successful course of study. According to Magnet.me, personal interests and individual talents remain key factors in determining which programme is the right fit for a student.
