Leiden University is well known for its student associations, which provide a great way for you to get to know your fellow students. As well as parties and social events, student associations also offer excellent sporting and cultural opportunities.

As a (new) student there are various possibilities to meet other students more easily, to participate in fun activities and to feel more connected to the university community.

Co-participation bodies promote the interests of students and staff by critically observing university policy and its implementation, and by playing an advisory and co-decision making role.

Your student or registration card is your proof of registration as a student of Leiden University.

As well as student associations, you can also join one of the independent non-profit student organisations that are active in Leiden and The Hague. Become a member and develop your skills while making new friends and contributing to social causes.

Staying in contact with other students might not always be easy but it is very important. Find out about the different ways in which you can meet other students.

Before the start of each academic year you must register as a student of Leiden University. Late registration is generally not permitted so register on time! When you finish studying you may need to cancel your student registration.

Are you interested in working on your well-being, work-life balance or stress levels? Leiden Psychology students are offering a series of 5 individuals coaching sessions. The sessions are free of charge and confidentiality is guaranteed.

The annual National Student Survey (NSE) was conducted in the first quarter of 2024. A third of all Leiden University students responded. Lecturer appreciation and atmosphere were rated highly, whereas job market preparation and student well-being remain points for development.

As a student of Leiden University you are provided with a student account (ULCN account) that allows you to access a variety of systems such as uMail, uSis, Brightspace and library catalogues, as well as the physical workstations within the university.

Your LU-card is your university ID card and your student card is your proof of student registration. Find out about the cards you need as a student of Leiden University.

Your student registration will expire automatically at the end of the academic year. However, if you end your study programme earlier, you must cancel your student registration.
