A position of assistant professor is available in the Clinical Psychology department of Leiden University. The department has an ambitious and multidisciplinary research program with a focus on clinically relevant research. The Clinical Psychology master's program has a maximum of 150 students per year, about half of whom are non-Dutch speakers. The program is taught in English, with the exception of therapeutic skills training for Dutch-speaking students. The staff of the department also participate in the bachelor's program, which is taught in both Dutch and English. The department is also active in post-master professional training programs.

Job description:
As an assistant professor you contribute to the research program of the Clinical Psychology unit. Your research should relate to the etiology, diagnostics and/or treatment of psychopathology. The expertise of the unit mainly concerns mood and anxiety disorders and personality disorders. You are expected to compete for research grants from Dutch and European grant providers. The unit participates in several research and training consortia, including NESDA, New Science of Mental Disorders, Bioclock, Caring Universities and research school EPP. The unit also participates in a new academic outpatient clinic, the Leiden University Treatment and Expertise Center.

You will also contribute to teaching at both bachelor's and master's level. Teaching tasks may include clinical and research skills training and internship and thesis supervision in the master's program. Undergraduate work groups and lectures to larger groups of students are also possible.

The research/teaching ratio is 40/60. A combination of this position with a part-time position as a clinician at the Leiden University Treatment and Expertise Center (LUBEC) is possible, provided you have a relevant BIG registration. Research grants and/or clinical work (patient care in LUBEC or elsewhere) can lead to a reduction of teaching load. 

•    Completed a master program in clinical psychology.
•    PhD on a topic relevant to clinical psychology.
•    Innovative research ideas related to clinical psychology
•    Broad interest and knowledge of clinical psychology.
•    Experience and affinity with teaching at an academic level.
•    Good command of Dutch and English.

•    Work experience in (mental) health care.
•    Registration as a GZ psychologist (BIG) or behavioral therapist (VGCT).
•    Top publications in scientific and/or professional journals.
•    Creativity, strong social skills and collegiality.

Organization description
The Faculty of Social Sciences consists of five institutes: Educational Sciences, Political Science, Psychology, Cultural Anthropology & Development Sociology and the Center for Science and Technology Studies. The faculty has approximately 7,000 students and 1,025 employees. Education is provided and research is conducted on a wide range of topics ranging from adoption to political behaviour. This employment contract is part of the nationally formulated sector plan for the Social Sciences and Humanities (theme mental disorders). We offer a varied and attractive palette of activities in an active and ambitious educational and research environment. Appointment is in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities, initially for a period of one year. An extension and permanent appointment is possible, depending on needs, proven suitability and available resources. The salary is, depending on qualifications, registrations and experience, minimum €3974,- and a maximum of €5439,- gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 11).
