Communications Officer


Key responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for external communication on research and education and help built a strong community and profile. Together with the Manager, you will set up and implement a communication strategy, while guarding the corporate Leiden-Delft-Erasmus identity and tone of voice. You will have a coordinating role in connecting the Centre with the Faculty’s and central university communication services and LDE (central) communication.

You will be:

  • designing and producing external communication (website, newsletter, social media);
  • coordinating student reporters;
  • networking and promoting the Centre;
  • co-organizing events;
  • performing other duties related to communication or the secretariat.

You actively contribute ideas on the design, organization and content of communication processes (printed matter, LDE magazine, events) and then handle implementation. Sometimes you do this alone and sometimes with a team, but always in close consultation with the Managing Director. You are independent, you have initiative and you have excellent social skills. You feel at ease in a university environment with many different players and you are customer-oriented. You roll up your sleeves and you are flexible.

Online communication has no secrets for you. You maintain social media (twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and are experienced with systems and programs such as CMS, Typo3, html, mailplus, collector / qualtrix, InDesign / Photoshop. In addition, you can edit well. You will edit texts for the LDE magazine, the website and other resources. You are the link between the LDE team, the LDE centers and the web agency.


Selection criteria

  • you have a background in communication (at least BA-level);
  • you are experienced in working with CMS;
  • you have affinity with cultural heritage;
  • you are good with texts;
  • you have a high proficiency in English and Dutch;
  • you are flexible and able to work independently;
  • you are result driven;
  • you are creative;
  • you have excellent social skills;
  • you are punctual.

The Centre for Global Heritage and Development is a collaboration between Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam.  The Centre stimulates multidisciplinary and innovative research and education on cultural heritage and is active in research-based consultancy. The work of the Centre is characterized by a strong spatial and environmental orientation, innovative technologies and a firm social engagement.

The Centre is located in the Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Leiden.

The Faculty of Archaeology is an international faculty in the multidisciplinary world of Archaeology and is home to 500 students. Terms and conditions 

We offer a 0,2 to 0,4 FTE position for the duration of one year. Extension is depending on funding and performance. Salary range from € 2367 - € 3606 Gross full-time base, (Salary scale 7 or 8, Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
