Funding advisor (0,8 – 1,0 fte)
The department of research of the Leiden Law School is looking for a funding advisor.

Function description
As a funding advisor, you will support our researchers in preparing and submitting grant applications. Your contribution covers a variety of aspects, ranging from working closely with researchers on the proposal text, to sharing knowledge on what makes a successful proposal. Grant applications may concern individual and collaborative projects, both thematic and non-programmatic research, coming from a wide range of (inter)national funding organisations.

You will work in close collaboration with colleagues of the department of research of the Leiden Law School, and other relevant support staff, such as the financial department. Furthermore, you will be embedded in the Research Funding Support Community of Leiden University, consisting of around thirty first and second line funding advisors who actively work together to cover all facets of funding support within the university. As an in-house advisor, you will be the first contact point for researchers of the Leiden Law School. When rendering advice and providing support you can make the best use of already existing information, training and know-how within the university. You will have plenty of room to develop yourself, building on existing expertise within the research department (the head of the department has extensive experience as a funding advisor).

Key responsibilities

• Providing one-to-one advice and support to researchers working on funding applications, including monitoring the preparation and submission process;
• Identifying new funding opportunities and open calls that fit with the Leiden Law School’s research areas and individual researchers’ interests;
• Referring (questions of) researchers to other support staff within the Leiden University Research Funding Community, to address budgets, data management, ethics, etc;
• Informing and advising the Research and Faculty Board about funding opportunities and internal procedures for grant applications;
• Providing advice during the start-up phase of awarded research projects.
  

Your profile

• University degree, prior research experience is a plus;
• Background in (or demonstratable affinity with) the legal discipline, criminology and/or economics;
• You have at least three years experience in advising and supporting researchers with (international) funding applications;
• Knowledge of the Dutch and European funding landscape is a prerequisite, including NWO, NWA, and Horizon Europe;
• Strong analytical skills, well-organized, and flexible;
• You enjoy working in an independent and pro-active manner in a dynamic environment;
• Enthusiastic, service-oriented, with a strong eye for details;
• Excellent oral and writing skills in both Dutch and English.

With over 6500 students and 650 members of staff, Leiden Law School is one of the largest faculties in The Netherlands. The department of research consists of an enthusiastic team dedicated to facilitating research, so that researchers can excel. The team supports the Research Board and the Vice-Dean Research. The department is responsible for the organizational and policy support of research within the faculty. The staff also plays an important role in the organization of the PhD training, organized in the Graduate School of Legal Studies. The research department currently consists of a head and eight employees.

Terms and conditions
Candidates will be appointed as Funding advisor, initially for a period of one year. A permanent appointment may be possible after the temporary term depending on performance and available budget. The gross salary depends on qualifications and experience, and ranges between € 4.332 and € 5.929 per month for a full-time appointment (salary scale 11 Dutch Universities Conditions of Employment).
