This theme has started with identifying major sustainability and biodiversity challenges where Leiden University can make a meaningful difference. Where can we add most value, and with which (combination of) expertise? 

Co-creation

We are developing this in a process of co-creation. We collect ideas and insights from all faculties and institutes. During the first Kick-Off, 23 September 2026, we consulted a broad group of researchers from all faculties. This resulted in a first idea on interesting themes (topics) and expertise.

Gathering ideas

In the coming months, we will continue to gather ideas, including through an online survey for researchers. Meanwhile, we are compiling a list of researchers from all faculties who are working on or interested in sustainability and biodiversity.  
  
In Q4 of 2026 we will start working on a roadmap, that describes what impact we want to make when it comes to inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration for network building, research and education. And how we intend to achieve this.
