Structuring data

When structured properly, the data are easier to manipulate, analyze and visualize.

The first and essential step of data analysis is its cleaning and preparation which enables further analysis. The structure of data depends on its type, data cleaning and their proper structuring are prerequisites of successful statistical analysis. Some clear guidelines are offered by the Tidy Data framework, that can be summarized as follows:

  1. Each variable forms a column
  2. Each observation forms a row
  3. Each type of observational unit forms a table.
