Computers in lecture rooms
On this page you will find an overview of frequently asked questions about using the computers in lecture rooms.
How can I log in to computers in the lecture rooms?
Make sure to arrive on time to log in and have your password ready. Logging in is fast, since you do not need to use Multifactor Authentication (MFA), unless you also need access to Microsoft 365 (in order to access e.g. files on Teams or on OneDrive).
- Is another lecturer still logged in? You can log out another account using the log out button.
- Is the PC in sleep mode? The PC enters sleep mode after 60 minutes of inactivity. It can be woken up by moving the mouse.
After logging in your desktop appears on the screen. That means your start screen and any shortcuts on your desktop are visible. If you do not want to show these, clean up your desktop beforehand and hide any sensitive information. If you choose to also log in to your Microsoft 365 account, your Teams and Outlook notifications will not be visible on the screen. This functionality has been turned off.
Do not forget to log out once you are finished! To log out, you can click on the log out button (shortcut) on the desktop. You can also go to your profile, click the three dot in the top right and select the log-out option. If you do not log out yourself, your account will be automatically logged out after 15 minutes of inactivity.
Where can I report issues with the computers in lecture rooms?
Issues with the computers in lecture rooms can be reported to the ISSC Helpdesk. There is a physical helpdesk in the Lipsius building on the ground floor next to the Servicedesk. They can be reached by phone via 8888. There are phones in each lecture room.
Do I have to request guest accounts for guest lecturers, symposiums and conferences?
Guest lecturers need to have a guest account in order to be able to use the computer in a lecture room. You can arrange for a guest account before the lecture, see also the page Request a guest account on the staff website. Guests can also use their own laptop by connecting it directly to the screen. Students who do a presentation can also use their own laptop.
Can I open files from my personal, department or work group disk?
After logging in, you can work the same way as usual. PowerPoint is locally available on the presentation point, as well as a local version of Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel) which you can use. If you need your own files, you need to log in to your Microsoft account in order to access them.
