How to discuss work balance

Talking about work balance is important both for your own well-being and for your performance at work. It is an inherent aspect of a modern-day healthy work culture to openly communicate about your needs and challenges. You can talk about this with your supervisor, for example during bilateral consultations, Performance and Development Interviews, or Annual Reviews. On this page, you can find several links to tools for improving these conversations.

It is important to discuss work balance with your supervisor, but also with your colleagues. As colleagues, you can encourage and hold each other accountable for safeguarding a healthy work culture. When both supervisors and colleagues are involved in the dialogue around work balance, a positive dynamic emerges, in which the well-being of employees plays a central role.
