Asbestos removal operation: final stage

The final stage of the asbestos removal operation in wing B will commence at the same time as the building work on the library. Neither of these operations will affect the operational management of the Faculty.

Context

In 2009 it came to light that there was asbestos between the concrete ceilings over the corridors of the Pieter de la Court building. Since it was impossible to remove the asbestos, a specialized company was hired to completely encapsulate it.

The ground floor of Wing B, which currently houses the Social and Behavioural Sciences Library and the African Studies Centre library, is the only part of the building where the asbestos has not yet been removed or encapsulated.
