Tobii Studio is software used in combination with a Tobii eye tracker. It can be used to create simple experiments, collect data, and analyze the eye tracking data. 

Tobii Studio is installed on all lab computers. Tobii Studio can be requested at the ISSC to be installed on your work computer. To use Tobii Studio, a licence is required. Tobii Studio licences belong to Tobii eye trackers.

E-Prime is a program used for creating experiments. E-Prime can be used in combination with both Tobii and EyeLink eye trackers. For usage with Tobii eye trackers, the E-Prime Extension for Tobii (EET) package is required.

E-Prime can also be used in combination with other hardware such as VU-AMS, Biopac, and BioSemi. See the example files for more information about sending event markers to hardware for synchronization purposes.

E-Prime 2 and E-Prime 3 as well as EET 2 and EET 3 are available for researchers at the Faculty and are preinstalled on all lab computers. You can install the software on your work computer through the Software Center.

MATLAB is a software environment for numerical computing. It can be used to build experiments and analyze data. The former requires the free PsychToolbox add-on. MATLAB 2018b, PsychToolbox and GSTREAMER come preinstalled on all lab computers and can be requested for a work PC via the ISSC.

The Faculty owns a limited number of MATLAB licenses which can only be used inside the University's network. Note that MATLAB is different from the MATLAB Component Runtime which is the free runtime required for running the PhysioData Toolbox.

Python 3 is an open-source general-purpose programming language. It comes preinstalled on all lab computers and can be installed on your work PC using the Software Center in Windows.

OpenSesame is a free program to create experiments, similar to E-Prime. It can be used together with the Tobii and EyeLink eye trackers, as well as SRBOX response devices.

The software can be requested for a given lab computer by mailing the PC number to SOLO Research and Lab Support, or for a work computer through the ISSC.

Qualtrics is the online research survey tool of Leiden University. It offers different question types, branch logic, and the ability to expert to statistical software such as SPSSC. Leiden University has a site-license.

Researchers and students can use Qualtrics without any cost. On the Leiden University Qualtrics domain you can log in easily using your ULCN-credentials.

In order to protect the privacy of respondents from which you collect data it is important that you work securely with Qualtrics. These measures need to be are documented in your DPIA and/or data management plan.

The University Library has extensively described these measures and you may also contact them for further advice on this.

Unity is a powerful cross-platform 3D engine and a user-friendly development environment to easily create 3D games. Unity is used to create Virtual Reality experiments. SOLO Research and Lab Support does not provide support for Unity.

oTree is a framework based on Python that lets you build: 

• multiplayer strategy games, like the prisoner’s dilemma, public goods game, and auctions;
• controlled behavioural experiments in economics, psychology, and related fields;
• surveys and quizzes.

oTree is installed in two economic decision-making labs at LEVEL. SOLO Research and Lab Support does not provide support for oTree.
