FSW Grassroots & Grass shoots grants

Do you see opportunities to enrich and improve your education with the use of online or digital tools? Or do you have an idea for an educational innovation, perhaps inspired by your experiences during the COVID-19 crisis? The FSW Grassroots and Grass shoots grants can help you realize your idea.

For example:

  • Would you like to embed (more) blended learning in your course, e.g. by adopting a flipped classroom setup and using knowledge clips or pre-recorded lectures in your course?
  • Do you want to expand or (better) integrate digital material you have developed into your course?
  • Would you like to experiment with digital tools, new formats and/or feedback in your teaching or assessment?

Previous participants worked with knowledge clips and peer feedback, created an online eLearning module and used VR to give students conversational experience.

Grassroots projects (maximum €1,000) are intended to carry out promising experiments or implement educational innovations of modest size. Teachers are completely free to choose a topic. There are conditions regarding feasibility, planning and budget.

  • You can apply for €1,000 per course
  • The project will be carried out in the academic year 2022-2023
  • Your project proposal contains a concrete outline to evaluate your experiment or innovation
  • Each project proposal must be approved by your Programme Director; make sure to discuss your idea with them in due time
  • A maximum of 10 Grassroots grants are available in 2022-2023

Grass shoots projects (maximum €8,000) are intended to implement educational innovations of considerable size. We ask that you carefully consider 1) the impact on student success, 2) the likelihood that applicants will be able to successfully complete the project, and 3) the scale at which the project will be implemented.

  • You can apply for €8,000 per course
  • The project will be carried out in the academic year 2022-2023
  • The project proposal contains a rationale for the expected effects, based on literature or previous results – for instance results obtained from digital innovations during the COVID-19 crisis
  • Your project proposal contains a concrete outline to evaluate your experiment or innovation
  • Each project proposal must be approved by your Programma Director; make sure to discuss your idea with them in due time
  • In 2022-2023, there is a maximum of 6 Grass shoots grants available

The Grassroots and Grass shoots grants are an initiative of SOLO. For the 2022-2023 edition, we are collaborating with the FSW workgroup Vision on Blended Education. Our goal is to formulate a faculty supported vision and optimize knowledge sharing on the projects.

Grants for 2022-2023 have now been awarded. Keep an eye on the website for information on another round.
